The branded medicine Vyleesi (bremelanotide) is FDA-approved for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women; this approval does not apply to VCP research products. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors (sildenafil, tadalafil) that work mechanically on blood flow, PT-141 activates melanocortin receptors (MC3R / MC4R) in the brain's hypothalamus to stimulate desire and arousal at the neurological level. That mechanism is what makes it relevant for both women and men: PDE5 inhibitors do nothing for desire, only for erectile vascular function. PT-141 works on the central drive itself, which is the missing piece for most low-libido presentations. Dosed on-demand, typically 30–60 minutes before activity. Most users start at low doses (250–500mcg SubQ) and titrate. 10mg vial.
Dosage
Start 0.25mg on-demand (45–60 min before); if well tolerated increase to 0.5mg — 1.75mg is the licensed maximum, no more than one dose in 24h
Duration of effect

RECONNECT — two identical Phase 3 randomised placebo-controlled trials (n=1,267 premenopausal women with HSDD): bremelanotide produced statistically significant improvements in desire and reductions in distress vs placebo over 24 weeks. These pivotal trials supported FDA approval of the branded medicine Vyleesi, not VCP research products.
